Custom tailored suits serve multiple purposes. Not only are they a great way to enhance your image as a successful Chinese American, but suits play an integral role at social events. Similar to having a customized vehicle and wanting to show off what has been done to it, a custom tailored suit should have its unique characteristics highlighted. At a cocktail reception recently, I met a few well dressed individuals and we all recognized each other for wearing bespoke suits. It was enjoyable to show off to one another what little touches and details we made for our suits and the reasoning behind them. One guy for example, smokes and carries a heavy and fancy French lighter. So he had his tailor sew a pocket into his waistband to hold his lighter. I personally wear a pocket watch in my vest, so my suits have a special pocket for my pocket watch and a special buttonhole in my vest to run its chain through it.


Other details when wearing bespoke suits are associated with your accessories. The last thing you want to do is to dress nicely in an expensive custom tailored suit with a sport watch. A suit should be worn with a dress watch - a simple stainless steel or gold watch with an alligator or leather strap.
